Luxury hotel celebrated four award wins, recognising outstanding team and whisky and wedding experiences
YTL Hotels’ The Glasshouse, Edinburgh, celebrated no less than four victories at this year’s Scottish Hotel Awards. The 77-room luxury hotel beat stiff competition to take home the regional title for the best hotel whisky bar in Edinburgh and was also named regional winner for the Intimate Weddings Award.
Two members of The Glasshouse’s inspiring team were singled out amongst an elite bunch for their own personal outstanding contributions. Jonathan Sisamon Valdes picking up the regional win for Concierge of the Year and Ruben Goncalves taking the national title for Drinks Specialist for the second year running.
The awards paid tribute to the hard work of the charming Glasshouse team, who renovated the hotel’s Whisky Snug in 2018, transforming the physical heart of the hotel into the ultimate cosy hideaway to enjoy Scotland’s national drink. Offering more than 140 Scotch whiskies, the Glasshouse’s expert team are on hand to help whisky aficionados and novices alike find the dram for them. The hotel’s skilled mixologists can also craft whisky and non-whisky based cocktails to suit even the most astute and experienced drinkers. Guests can journey through Scotland’s whisky regions drink by drink, relaxing by the fireplace or on warmer days outside on the hotel’s two-acre rooftop garden with stunning views of Calton Hill.
General Manager Tom Gibson said the awards recognised that the hotel’s whisky experience goes beyond the bar, with the hotel’s 17 luxury suites all named after a Scottish Whisky distillery or region including Islay, Macallan, Dalwhinnie and Glenfiddich. The knowledgeable hotel team also offer the Glasshouse Whisky Experience as well as the signature Elite Whisky Experience and can arrange private guided distillery tours for guests looking to delve even deeper.
Gibson said: “We are delighted to be recognised across multiple categories in this year’s awards and it is fantastic for to get the Whisky Snug on the map, especially when up against such strong competition. We look forward to welcoming guests back to the bar and hotel when it is safe to do so and also look forward to celebrating the weddings of many happy couples who may have had to postpone their big days this year.”
As well as being home to Edinburgh’s best hotel whisky bar, The Glasshouse is a fully licenced wedding venue, offering one of the most unique city centre venues for couples looking to tie the knot. Seamlessly combining contemporary style with historic elegance, The Glasshouse offers one of the most flexible venues in the heart of the city, with a huge range of choice for couples to create their own special day. The stunning rooftop garden is one of Edinburgh’s best kept secrets and a firm favourite for couples to say their ‘I dos,’ before the wedding party dances the night away.
