New flagship hotel, Swissôtel Kursaal Bern, debuts in the heart of the Swiss capital
Swissôtel Hotels & Resorts is excited to welcome Swissôtel Kursaal Bern, its newest flagship property in the Swiss capital, joining Accor’s premium brand portfolio. Following the renovation of the former Hotel Allegro, the Swissôtel Kursaal Bern welcomes its guests with 171 newly designed rooms, clever design solutions, a sophisticated sustainability strategy and traditional Swiss hospitality.
Located in the heart of Bern, Swissôtel Kursaal Bern boasts panoramic views of the Alps and the historical old city, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which is just a five-minute walk from the hotel. A ten-minute walk leads to the Bärengraben (bear park), the Rosengarten (rose garden) and the blue-green Aare River that invites visitors to cool off in the summer months.
“We are very pleased to join forces with Swissôtel for this groundbreaking project and to benefit from the strength of the Accor network with its global reservations system, international sales force, direct booking channels and access to new, innovative technologies. Our guests will have the chance to participate in ALL, Accor’s lifestyle loyalty programme across all brands and experiences. Authentic Swiss hospitality is a key differentiator for Swissôtel – that makes us perfect partners,” said Karin Kunz, Director at Kongress + Kursaal AG.
Alpine heritage and a conscious way of living
Responsible for the renovation of the hotel is the architectural group, Marazzi + Paul. Award-winning interior designer, Nina Mair, has fashioned the rooms utilizing natural, sustainable and well-crafted materials that reflect Swissôtel's alpine heritage as well as a self-aware, active lifestyle. Located on the fourth floor are two of the brand’s signature Vitality Suites, which offer guests a serene and stylish guestroom offering that places wellbeing at the centre of the stay experience. The Vitality Suites are complete with a balcony with stunning panoramic views, custom-made furniture and a fitness wall, the Wellbeing Wall, which NOHRrd has designed exclusively for Swissôtel. The Wellbeing Wall offers simple, self-explanatory equipment and a cyber-trainer for mental and physical training. To revitalise and recharge body and mind, the Swissôtel Kursaal Bern boasts numerous sports and fitness facilities – from in-room vitality fitness sets to the 150 square metre gym open 24/7 with the latest equipment and a personal trainer on request.
Culinary delights from garden to roof
Foodies will enjoy the two restaurants led by Michelin star chef Fabian Raffeiner, which offer fresh, seasonal cuisine with a charming ambience. The Giardino Mediterranean restaurant serves a mix of classic and innovative Italian specialities on the exclusive sun terrace or in the Winter Garden while Yù restaurant takes guests on a culinary journey through Asia. The hotel’s Garden Lounge with its picturesque fishpond is a marvellous backdrop for cocktails to wind down from an active day in the city or business meetings. In summer, the roof terrace welcomes guests with panoramic views of the city and the Alps.
Hybrid Events with panoramic views
Swissôtel Kursaal Bern also pays special attention to professionally organised meetings and events in inspiring surroundings. The Kursaal Bern Congress Centre is the largest event space in the city with 4,805 square metres of meeting and event space for up to 1,500 guests. The centre’s 28 modern, light-flooded rooms are available for large and small meetings, seminars and banquets; those on the upper floors are particularly impressive with their unique view of Bern’s old town and the Alps.
“Life is a journey. Live it well.”
“True to our brand promise – ‘Life is a journey. Live it well.’ – we aim to nourish the body, stimulate the mind and warm the heart all while captivating and caring for our guests with authentic Swiss hospitality,“ said Lilian Roten, Vice President, Swissôtel Hotels & Resorts. “This promise will come to life at Swissôtel Kursaal Bern with the hotel being a true urban address where travellers can feel at ease and recharge. With Kongress + Kursaal Bern AG, we have the ideal partner at our side who shares our promise of quality, efficiency and attentiveness. Swissôtel started in Switzerland and has established itself all over the world. We are delighted that we now have a hotel – the Swissôtel Bern – in the capital of the brand’s homeland.” With more than 31 hotels in 18 countries, Swissôtel recently celebrated its 40th anniversary. The success story began in Switzerland in 1980, before the brand took its alpine vitality out into the world and opened unique properties such as Swissôtel The Bosphorus in Istanbul and Swissôtel The Stamford in Singapore. The opening of the Swissôtel Bern in the Swiss capital returns the brand to its roots. Swissôtel has been part of Accor since 2016.
